Why isn't speech recognition working?

Make sure you've granted microphone and Speech Recognition permissions in Settings > Split Speak. Also ensure your device language supports the selected translation pair.

What is "Recommended Quality" mode?

Recommended Quality uses Apple Intelligence Foundation Models for higher-quality, context-aware translations. It requires iOS 17.4+ and a one-time model download (~3 GB). Standard Quality uses the built-in Translation framework and works immediately.

Does the app work offline?

Yes, completely. All speech recognition and translation happens on-device. No internet connection is required after the initial language model download.

Which languages are supported?

Split Speak supports 20 languages: Arabic, Chinese (Simplified & Traditional), Dutch, English (US & UK), French, German, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, Spanish, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, and Vietnamese.

How does the split-screen layout work?

Place your phone between two people at a table. Each side of the screen faces one person, displaying their language. On iPad, a three-column layout shows live conversation history in the center.

Is my data private?

Absolutely. Split Speak processes everything on-device. No audio, text, or personal data ever leaves your device. See our Privacy Policy for details.

How do I reset the app?

Go to the Settings tab within the app and use the "Reset Everything" option. This clears all preferences and conversation history.
